Winter Hair Color
Winter hair
care is different marginally than in summer months. The hair on
your head protects the brain from extreme cold. In fact some of
you might notice that hair growth is a little faster than in
summer. This is the body’s auto immune system response to cold.
By increasing hair growth, the body is protecting the brain and
other biological organs from cold, and maintaining optimum
temperature for the system to work perfectly.
In winter hair care, generally it does not require as frequent
cleaning as it does in summer. In winter mostly the dust
particles in the atmosphere surrounding you is either not
present, or it has coalesced with moisture in the air, and
settled down. Therefore, broadly speaking, the need to wash your
hair every day is not as much as it is in summer.
Winter hair care and hair care in summer however share one
common attribute. Although it is cold outside in winter, the
hair does require water and essential oils. This is because
while the temperature is low, humidity level also falls, thereby
creating an imbalance in the absorption of moisture and oil,
essential for continuing healthy hair care.
Further during winters, a hot bath acts as a balm to the cold
outside. Washing hair however should be done in tepid water, and
not hot water. To those of you who are prone to catching cold,
immediately after your bath, dry your hair, using a terry towel,
instead of using a hair drier. This is so because exposing hair
to hot air harms the hair, and in turn, it also affects the
microorganisms in it which act as conduits for the oil from the
hair glands to reach every end of the hair! If you do have to
use a drier, use it sparingly, and at a lower heat setting.
As in summer, use of essential oils, such aloe oil, olive oil,
coconut oil, etc should be increased. Herbal essential oils for
hair are available in plenty now. You could try them and see
which one suits you most for your winter hair care.
Brushing your long hair is as much a must as in summer months.
Since dust formation is lesser in winter months, use light
shampoos once in a while, instead of every alternate day as you
do in summer. Conditioners can be used, as also cream that
contains vitamins for hair growth.
These are basic requirements for winter hair care. You are the
best judge since you only know how clean or unclean your hair
is. Falling hair in winter or summer is not a cause for concern,
unless it is excessive. If it is, then it is better you consult
a dermatologist to check the reasons. Otherwise it is just
nature’s way of renewing old hairs by dropping them, much as the
tree sheds old leaves! And in its place grows new, fresh and
lovely looking leaves!
